Modern technology has numerous benefits, reducing workloads, increasing communication and enabling myriad advancements. Yet it has also had a detrimental impact on many people's mental health. Constant comparisons, judgements, lack of privacy and intentionally addictive elements can create feelings of inferiority, anxiety and manipulation.

This is particularly true for young people whose self-worth is often determined by external factors, and who lack the maturity to process many of the complexities of a world-wide social platform. 

As carers of young people, it is important to learn how to acknowledge and validate their experiences and support them to navigate the potentially traumatic impacts of online incidents.
